Follow Friday is a weekly meme hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. It's a great way to meet new blogger friends.

This weeks question is:

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick ass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

 Well, most of my favorite books have some pretty big love triangles!! I love the romance in them, but it does sometimes bother me when there's an obvious choice but the girl is still tangled in a web no knowing who to choose. An example of this would definitely be the Twilight saga: Bella obviously should've chosen Jacob (in my opinion anyways!). But if it's a really great love triangle where there's two amazing guys, I think it makes the book more interesting because you have no idea who to choose or who the girl will end up with.. *ahem* The Infernal Devices. Although, I've made it clear that I'm definitely Team Jem, but Will is a VERY VERY VERY close second. Who knows? I may change my mind after Clockwork Princess. They also tend to have a pretty kick ass heroine (or hero), and sometimes (like in The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer) they tend to be a little bit unhinged. But those sometimes make for the best stories. I also like when the character grows as a person throughout a book or series: like she might be shy and timid at first and not realize her true strength, but as the book/series progresses, she proves herself to be a true heroine time and time again, although with a few mistakes along the way. They can't be all perfect, can they? You wouldn't be able to relate to a character like that. But yeah, I'm definitely a sucker for the romance. ;)

What Are 5 Things You Look For When Buying A Book You've Never Heard Of?

 The process I use when looking for a new book I've never heard of goes a little like this (and in this order):

1. Look at the cover, title and author. (I know, I know! Don't judge a book by it's cover! Sometimes I just can't help it)
2. Check goodreads. (if I'm looking online; if I'm in a bookstore, I skip this step and move to the next)
3. Read the synopsis. (or back cover if in a bookstore)
4. Read reviews from bloggers I follow--yes, I trust your judgment! (if I'm online. If I'm in a bookstore, I'll buy the book if I like the synopsis)
5. PRICING! That's a big one. If the book is rather expensive, I'll shop around different sites to see who has it the cheapest. If the book isn't out yet, I'll add it to my goodreads TBR list to be sure I get to it eventually.

Book Appeal: When you're browsing goodreads, the library, or another blogger's reviews, what grabs your attention to make you want to read it?

 

 

If I'm browsing through goodreads, I usually look at how many stars the book has, and which of my goodreads friends have added a book to their TBR list or have already reviewed it. If a book gets a lot of praise it makes me more interested in reading it. And I can't forget the synopsis! If the synopsis catches my attention then I'll definitely add it. If I'm browsing in a library or bookstore, it's usually the cover that catches my attention, even though I know they say not to judge a book by it's cover, but when you're in a bookstore, there are usually so many books, it's difficult to go through reading all of the back covers. It's easier to find a great cover, and then reading the synopsis to find out if it's something I would be interested in.
