Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Historical Fiction Novels

Top Ten Five Historical Fiction Novels

Okay, I'm going to tell you now, I don't read much historical fiction, so I may have to cheat a little bit and put books that are just set in the past or have a shorter than ten list...

1. With Violets by Elizabeth Robards - In this moving and tragic love story, Berthe Morisot, the only female French Impressionist painter, is a woman ahead of her time. Melancholy, driven, and talented, she is deeply in love with the great painter Edouard Manet.

2. Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare - In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa's powers for his own dark ends. 

3. The Man From St. Petersburg by Ken Follett - His name was Feliks. He came to London to commit a murder that would change history. A master manipulator, he had many weapons at his command, but against him were ranged the whole of the English police, a brilliant and powerful lord, and the young Winston Churchill himself. These odds would have stopped any man in the world-except the man from St. Petersburg...

4. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen - Jacob Jankowski says: "I am ninety. Or ninety-three. One or the other." At the beginning of Water for Elephants, he is living out his days in a nursing home, hating every second of it. His life wasn't always like this, however, because Jacob ran away and joined the circus when he was twenty-one. It wasn't a romantic, carefree decision, to be sure. His parents were killed in an auto accident one week before he was to sit for his veterinary medicine exams at Cornell. He buried his parents, learned that they left him nothing because they had mortgaged everything to pay his tuition, returned to school, went to the exams, and didn't write a single word. He walked out without completing the test and wound up on a circus train. The circus he joins, in Depression-era America, is second-rate at best. With Ringling Brothers as the standard, Benzini Brothers is far down the scale and pale by comparison.  

5. Fateful by Claudia Gray - When 17-year-old Tess Davies, a ladies' maid, meets handsome Alec Marlow aboard the RMS "Titanic," she quickly becomes entangled in the dark secrets of his past, but her growing love puts her in mortal peril even before fate steps in.  


So I only had enough for five. Looks like I need more historical fiction novels in my life!!
