In My Mailbox #29 (September 2-8)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren to share books that you've received over the past week. These books can be bought, borrowed, won, checked out at the library, or sent to you to be reviewed, and it is usually held on Sunday (or whichever day works best for you!) It doesn't have to be just books. It can be anything you receive in the mail.

For Review

Solid by Shelley Workinger (via Shelley Workinger)

I bought

Origin by Jessica Khoury
Embers & Echoes by Karsten Knight (via BooksAMillion.com)

Brayden Received

Llama Llama Home With Mama by Anna Dewdney (via Dolly Parton's Imagination Library)
and
Highlights High Five magazine for October 2012 (via Highlights magazine)

This is a very special IMM for me! This week I received my very first book for review by Shelley Workinger. I'm honored that she asked me to review her book, and I can't wait to begin reading it. Look for my review within the next month. I'm also thrilled that Embers & Echoes finally came in the mail! I've been dying to read it ever since Wildefire left me with my jaw on the floor after the huge cliffhanger.

I'm sure some of you will be wondering what Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is. You can find out more about it at http://imaginationlibrary.com/ . Basically, it is a program started by Dolly Parton to ensure that children, no matter their parents income, will have books to read. From my understanding, the area that I live in makes my son eligible to receive one book every month until he is five years old and for free. I'm not sure how it works in other parts of the country, or in other countries, but you can find the information at the link above. As of right now, the only countries that participate in the Imagination Library are the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. If you live within these countries, feel free to check out the website and register your child to receive a book each month.

Also, for those of you who don't know, Highlights is a magazine just for kids. It has fun activities, poems, comics, short stories, hidden picture puzzles, crafts, kid-friendly recipes.. all kinds of fun stuff! I used to read them when I was growing up, and I looked forward to receiving them each month. I'm very happy to report that my son now gets them. Because he is only three, he receives the younger version High Five, which focuses on 2-6 year olds. If you would like to know more about Highlights, you can go to www.Highlights.com.

What did you receive in your mailbox??

  3. I'm very much looking forward to your thoughts on "Solid," but I actually dropped in to comment because I adore Dolly Parton and her program is every bit as kind-spirited as she is. :)
