Top Ten Most Frustrating Characters Ever

1. Bella Swan

Yes, I said it!! Bella Swan was one of the most infuriating characters I've come across since I've started reading young adult literature over the past few years. She was childish, naive, and far too dependent on Edward for her happiness. Not to mention she was WAY too comfortable around these creatures who could, and would if circumstances called for it, kill her for her blood. Instead of screaming and running in the other direction, she walked right up to him saying "I'm not afraid of you". Does that sound normal to you? NO. Not to mention, she couldn't truly make up her mind between Jake and Edward. She said she chose Edward, but it was pretty easy to tell that she had feelings for Jacob as well, especially when she ran off from school to hang out with him even though Edward was trying to keep her from him. She used Jacob quite often for comfort, even knowing that more of her heart belonged to Edward and when Edward left her she COMPLETELY fell apart. I'm not talking lying around a few days moping, I'm talking about how she walked into the most dangerous situations she could find, such as jumping off a cliff by herself and almost drowning. Oh, and lets not forget hearing Edwards voice in her head. And then she goes and chooses Edward when the clear choice (in my opinion) was Jacob. That was the cherry on top of it all for me. It was then that I realized I could never have a good relationship with this character.

2. Katniss Everdeen

I know this is going to sound extremely contradictory so just bare with me. Don't get me wrong, Katniss is one of my favorite heroines. She's strong, she's badass, she can use a bow like a true hunter and hit the bulls eye every time. With that being said, I often found myself saying "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? NO. DON'T DO THAT!" Especially when it came to Gale and Peeta. It was very clear to me from the beginning that she was fighting all of her feelings for Peeta even though she loved him. And for some reason she couldn't choose between Gale and Peeta even though she said that Gale was just her friend and she never thought of him any differently (until later). She also resisted being the symbol for the rebellion, fighting it until the very end and then threw herself into situations that she was told to stay out of. SPOILER HERE!! Skip this if you haven't read Mockingjay!! I was also disappointed in the fact that she blamed Gale for Prim's death. Yes he created the bomb that killed her, but he DIDN'T drop it on her. I feel like she shouldn't have blamed him for it, but she did and she never forgave him. I was pleased that she ended up with Peeta. I knew that she loved him throughout the whole series, however the way that she ended up with him made it seem like she was with him by default, simply because she hated Gale for creating the bomb that took her sisters life and he left, never coming around again because he knew she would never forgive him for something he didn't even do! That part was incredibly annoying to me. It was like "oh hey. Here's Peeta. I guess I should marry him now that the Hunger Games are out of our lives forever and Gale isn't here but Peeta is and I have no one left." BAH! Okay, rant over now. END SPOILER! Okay, glad I got that out of my system.

3. Calla Tor

For those of you who haven't read the Nightshade series, I suggest skipping this because I'm going to end up ruining the whole series for you. Starting... now. Calla Tor got on my LAST nerve throughout much of the series. She was supposed to be with Ren, but she fell for Shay (which I was extremely happy about). I am a huge Shay fan. The moment he walked into Calla's life, I was rooting for him and only him. I just didn't connect with Ren at all. Calla did however. She was very attracted to him, which was very clear throughout reading the Nightshade series. Even though her heart belonged to Shay, and she told him she chose him and all that, she STILL ended up making out with Ren!! She couldn't make up her mind because of her lusting after both guys. She was constantly going back and forth between the two, not because of her heart, but because of her lust for them both. That got on my nerves so bad. I really think that at one point I yelled out in frustration. I mean, I understand being highly attracted to a guy but damn girl. Keep it together!

4. Zoey Redbird

I talked about Calla being lusty... Zoey Redbird is one hundred times worse. Need an example? At one point she was lusting after THREE different guys: one she was using for blood (which being a vampyre in this House of Night world makes you extremely horny, hence bloodlust), another she was dating, and another she was using for sex. That's not counting all the guys she's lusted after within the whole series. It gets a little complicated so I won't be doing  much explaining so I'm just going to name names here: Heath, Erik, Loren, Stark, Kalona, Aurox.. She's finally settled into a relationship, but she seems to be losing control of herself again. Hopefully she can keep herself together, but I'm pretty sure you can see why I have my doubts about the girl..

5. Tris Prior

My annoyance with Tris didn't occur until we reached Insurgent and she starts doing some incredibly stupid things. Like pushing Four away when he was trying to keep her safe and continuously putting herself in danger by going off on missions by herself and not telling anyone or coming up with stupid plans and putting herself right in the line of fire and trusting people she shouldn't have trusted. She was trying to get herself killed. After her bad-assery in Divergent, I expected nothing less of her in Insurgent and was extremely disappointed in her stupidity. She redeemed herself in the end, but I was still very frustrated with her prior to that.

6. Juliette Ferrars

Oh my geez don't even get me started on this girl. I thoroughly enjoyed Shatter Me and I'm really looking forward to Unravel Me, but good lord she got on my nerves so much! She hasn't been touched by anyone her whole life, never had a hug from someone, never held anyone's hand, nothing. So that made her incredibly weak. And at times, in my opinion, pathetic. It's ALL she could think about. And SPOILER HERE! she just couldn't get enough of touching Adam. She was completely intoxicated by his touch and lost all train of thought every time he touched her. And this included Warner as well. END SPOILER. I was hoping that this girl would be badass, I mean the cover makes her look that way, but all I felt from her was weakness.

7. Dolores Umbridge

Does this one even need to be explained?? This woman made me want to throw HP and the Order of the Phoenix across the room multiple times. She's loathsome and foul and manipulative and I was THRILLED when she was dragged away into the forest. THRILLED. Just looking at the image of her makes me cringe with disgust.

8. Ann Mather

Some of you may not know who this woman is. If you haven't read Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan, YOU NEED TO. This woman reminds me of Professor Umbridge so much. I hated her from the very beginning when I first met her and even throughout Spark my hatred and disgust only grew (which I didn't even think was possible). In some ways I felt that she was worse than Umbridge and I think that's saying something.

9. Lena Duchannes

It's a little hard for me to explain what it is about her that frustrates me, but I'm going to try my hardest considering I've only read the first book. In a way she seems a little bit self-absorbed. She liked to pity herself because her family is cursed and it's Ethan that forces her to try to stop the curse. He pushes her to look for a way to end it. She's perfectly okay with accepting her fate. She's whiny at times: like the fact that she wants what she wants and if she doesn't get it she complains and uses her powers-sometimes accidentally- and then she does it anyways against her uncle's wishes (who by the way is only trying to keep her safe). Not to mention, she keeps using the "it's not you, it's me" speech on Ethan when she's clearly in love with him and it's obvious that they share some kind of bond together and that they're supposed to be together.

10. Alexei Alexandrovich Karenin

If you have never read Anna Karenina, you cannot possible understand the frustration that this man can cause. The man has no feelings whatsoever, I swear it. He's far too logical and rational and the only reason he wants to keep Anna around after her affair is because of how it would look to society if they were to divorce. All he cares about is image and nothing more. He doesn't care that she was in love with someone else, or even had an affair with another man, he was completely rational about the entire affair and doesn't once fly off the handle after Anna makes her affair known. I just wanted to smack the man.

Fine, I think. If that's how he wants it.

"I can go right now," I say, "but to do that I'll have to use glory, so you might want to step outside for a minute. I'd hate to make you puke all over your nice boots."

"Okay," he says. "Don't trip on your way out."

"Oh, I won't," I say, because I can't think of a witty comeback, and I wait until he slips out . . . before I summon glory and will myself anywhere but here.

"I was just thinking about you," he says, his voice rough, his pupils so big they make his eyes look black. "Dream girl."

My face is getting hot, both from what he's saying and what he's feeling right now. He wants to kiss me. He wants to feel my lips again, so soft, so perfect to him-he wants to carry me out of this stupid noisy house to somewhere where he can kiss me.

Whoa. I can't breathe properly. He leans in.

  1. I agree with you about Bella - ugh cant stand her! And Umbridge too!

I didnt dislike Katniss that much, but your point about her wrongfully blaming Gale is a very good one.

  2. I agree with number 10, but I hated Vronsky more. Anna is just so complicated that she frustrated me. I wanted to love her and I couldn't. I wanted to hate her and I couldn't.

Umbridge is one I should have put on my list. I totally agree with you on Katniss. Bella made my list too.

Great list and thanks for sharing.

  4. I definitely agree with the Bella Swan choice. She infuriated me so much, I too would have chosen Jacob any day over Edward.
