Review: Radiant by Cynthia Hand

Radiant
Author: Cynthia Hand
Series: Unearthly, #2.5
Blurb: From New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Hand comes a riveting original novella (available only as an ebook) set in the world of the Unearthly series.

Clara is desperate to get away—from the memories that haunt her in Wyoming and the visions of a future she isn't ready to face—and spending the summer in Italy with her best friend, Angela, should be the perfect escape. . . .

For as long as she can remember, Angela has been told that love is dangerous, that she must always guard her heart. But when she met a mysterious guy in Italy two years ago she was determined to be with him, no matter the costs. Now she must decide whether she can trust Clara with her secret, or if telling her the truth will risk everything she cares about.

Alternating between Angela and Clara's perspectives, Radiant chronicles the unforgettable summer that will test the bounds of their friendship and change their lives forever.

Review

I. LOVE. THIS. SERIES. SO. MUCH. Yes, I said it! Even after reading this short novella I'm DYING to read more (which is why I went straight to BookAMillion after finishing it to buy Boundless!). I am so glad that I read Giselle's review of Radiant because it made me buy it for my Kindle app to read. I will admit that I have been very wary of Angela throughout this series because she's always been so vague about her mystery guy and how she's gotten her information about the angels and angel-bloods. I was really afraid that she was jeopardizing her safety, as well as Clara's, on someone who was bad, who may even be a Dark Wing.

In Radiant we finally get to meet Angela's mystery man when Clara and Angela go abroad to Rome for the summer, visiting Angela's family. We get a lot of insight into Angela's relationship with him, how it began, who he is (and we finally get a name!). It helped clear a lot of things up for me, although not entirely. The viewpoint shifts back and forth between Angela and Clara so not only do we learn more about Angela's relationship through her own eyes, but we get Clara's thoughts on this guy who has captured Angela's heart and caused so much secrecy. Sometimes Angela's view is in the past as we learn about how their relationship began and in others she's in the present.

While I'm still a little concerned about Angela and her mystery man, I am very glad that I got to read more about them. I felt while reading Unearthly and Hallowed that we were missing some vital information, but now I can see the picture so much better. I'm very much looking forward to reading Boundless now and I can't wait to discover more about Angela's purpose as well as the vision Clara was having throughout Radiant. Cynthia Hand has definitely worked her way into my favorite authors list with this amazing series.
