Top Ten and Teaser Tuesday: 7.30.2013

Today's topic is Top Ten Beginnings/Endings of Books. I've decided to do 5 beginnings and 5 endings. Let's hope I can remember all of my favorites! Also, the endings section might be a little spoilery, just to forewarn you!

Beginnings

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling - "Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much." Probably my favorite opening line of all time.

2. Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast - "Just when I thought my day couldn't get any worse I saw the dead guy standing next to my locker." Even though I have mixed feelings about this series, this is probably one of my favorite opening lines for a book.

3. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy - "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." Truer words were never spoken. I mean, if you really think about all of the happy families you know, they're all the same, but the unhappy families? Completely different.

4. The Year My Life Went Down the Loo by Katie Maxwell - "GAH! My room is haunted! And not just haunted by any old run-of-the-mill ghost--oh, no, my ghost is an underwear pervert!" Yes I know I cheated a little bit and used more than one sentence but that's okay.

5. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead - "I felt her fear before I heard her screams." Now if that doesn't draw you in, I don't know what will.

Endings

1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling - "All was well." I don't know about you but this one little line brings with it (for me at least) one huge sigh of relief.

2. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare - "And if the Thames that ran beside them, sure and silver in the afternoon light, recalled a night long ago when the moon shone as brightly as a shilling on this same boy and girl, or if the stones of Blackfriars knew the tread of their feet and thought to themselves: At last, the wheel comes full circle, they kept their silence." Not just this sentence, but the entire ending to this book, this series, is just so perfect that I almost cried with joy when I first read it.

3. Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout - "And they were all going to die. I smiled." This ending was torture. TORTURE I tell you. If you haven't read this book then you probably have no clue why which is a good thing, but if you have read it, you know exactly what I'm talking about. My heart was completely broken, not as much for Alex as for everyone else.

4. The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa - "First, we're going to find a certain cat." Not exactly an amazing line, but if you know who said this and why they said it you might think differently.

5. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins - I'm not sure I should post the last line of this book so I won't; just know that I read this two years ago and it is STILL the biggest cliffhanger I've read to date. I finished this book around midnight and without having Mockingjay. My mouth was in a silent 'O' and the only thing that was running through my head was "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WHY DIDN'T I BUY MOCKINGJAY????? WHHYYYYYYYYYY?" Needless to say I went straight to Walmart the next morning to buy it.

"I vowed after that day that I would be your hero too, no matter how long it took."
