Top Ten and Teaser Tuesday: Intimidating Books and The Elite

As avid a reader as I am, this topic is probably going to be pretty easy for me as several books are intimidating to me!

Top Ten Books That Are Most Intimidating to Me

(might be intimated by size, content, that everyone else loves it but you are sure you won't etc)

Size and Content

Several of these I have started and fully intend on finishing, but the size is just so daunting! The others I'm afraid to begin because of the content and the way the books are written. Sometimes it's hard for me to focus on them. But alas! I shall power through them and read them all to the end!

Popular

These are just a few of the popular books that I own and have yet to read because they are so popular and everyone talks about how AMAZING they are. I'm afraid I'm going to be incredibly disappointed. I'm also afraid of tear-jerkers and The Fault in Our Stars is know for making you sob hysterically but everyone says it's so good and that I'll love it so I'm definitely going to read it. You can pretty much bet that if it's very popular and I haven't read it, I'm intimidated by it, afraid I won't love it as much as everyone else. You can also bet that if it's a classic novel, I'm intimidated by it simply because it's a classic and they're usually harder to read. That about sums it up for me!

"No!" I cried. "No!"
I think I'm going to be sick," Natalie whispered as Elise made a weak moan into her guard's shoulder. But nothing stopped.
I stood up and lunged toward Maxon's seat, falling over my father's lap.
"Maxon! Maxon, stop this!"
"You have to sit down, miss," my guard said, trying to wrangle me back into my chair.
"Maxon, I beg you, please!"
"It's not safe, miss!"
"Get off me!" I yelled at my guard, kicking him as hard as I could. Try as I may, he held on tight.
"America, please sit down!" my mother urged.
...
"Maxon! Maxon!" I yelled. "Stop it! Stop it, please!"
He heard me; I know he did. I saw him slowly close his eyes and swallow one time, as if he could push the sound out of his head.
Quite a teaser, huh? This scene.. Oh man. I could barely take it.

  3. Ha! I've read that excerpt! And yes, that was totally a heart crusher for me. I loved The Fault though! It dealt with pretty tough stuff, but it was also amusing and fun to read :) Great post!

  4. I know the reason I have SUCH a problem with classics is the old style writing and dialogue. I find it difficult to follow and get bored easily. If they were all written in present day language I'm sure I would dig them! I'm always a little bit apprehensive to pick up overly hyped books. Cinder was a let down for me. It took me a year to finally read The Fault in Our Stars because of the content, but John Green is such a masterful writer that although it was a bit depressing, I also laughed quite a bit throughout the book and the love story was quite beautiful. I would DEF recommend that one! Thanks for stopping by my post :)

  5. Your list has some pretty good books on there. Anna Karenina is on my list too! It's just so long. Good luck, hopefully you'll decide to read some of those. :D

  6. I should have put The Fault in Our Stars on my list as well! It's super-intimidating. But other than you, I'm determined NOT to read it. I just can't deal with that topic, it hits too close to home.
I also want to read Anna Karenina! I just can't decide what language I want to read it in ^^' I think the original is French but mine's not good enough, and I don't know whether the English or German translation would be better... (this can make a huge difference for me - I've disliked books only to find out later that it was the awkward translation's fault).
Great list, thanks for stopping by mine earlier :)
