Emilia King is entering her senior year at Santa Barbara University. For the past three years, she lived in the library – doing what she knows best – focusing on her studies and forgetting her past…a past that has forever changed her life. But this year marks a new beginning…

Logan Prescott is not only the hottest guy on campus, he’s heir to a billionaire hotel fortune. Emilia knows he’s trouble and should stay clear of him. But his notorious good looks and piercing blue eyes make him simply irresistible – especially when he’s quoting her favorite literary works.

Intrigued by Emilia’s innocence and resistance to his charm, Logan discovers she’s a challenge he simply can’t resist. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but running from him may be impossible.

I have such mixed feelings about this book. One minute I was thinking aw this is such a cute relationship! and the next I wanted to tell Emilia to shut it and kiss the boy already. To be honest, I loved Logan the best out of all the characters. Emilia to me was so incredibly insecure and it kind of drove me nuts. She was continuously making jealous comments and needing reassurances. Logan was often repeating himself and several of their conversations seemed redundant. However, I enjoyed watching their relationship blossom. Logan is known for his partying and promiscuous ways; Emilia is known for keeping to herself and spending her time in the library studying. But when they meet, sparks fly. They find each other irresistible and no matter how much they try to stay away they find themselves drawn to the other.

There are a lot of literary references, as well as song references and lyrics throughout the book. Honestly, I found myself skipping the song lyrics. I felt they were unnecessary but I knew all the songs so I didn't feel like I needed to read them. I also found that some of the dialogue was a bit unrealistic but I looked past that because I enjoyed the story line. I will admit that I was hoping they would get it on at some point (ha!) but after that ending (What?!) I'm glad they took things slow.

The pacing of Running From Romeo was a bit slow for me. It didn't really have any ups and downs; it just moved steadily on. I kept waiting for something big to happen but it never really did and by the end I was expecting it to continue on with the same vibe. But I was mistaken. It was like a bomb dropped. I certainly wasn't expecting the ending. It actually seemed a little out of character for the person I knew them to be throughout the course of the book, but I'm hoping that in the sequel (Yes! There will be a sequel!) somehow things will mellow back out and they'll find a way to work through what happened at the end. I am hoping that Emilia grows a backbone and becomes a strong, confident young woman. I think these characters have such potential, especially Emilia and I'm excited to see how her character develops after the events that transpired at the end.

While I can't say I absolutely loved this one, I definitely enjoyed reading it. I'm now invested in the characters and hopefully I'll get the chance to read the sequel because I'm interested in seeing where Ms. Mannino takes Emilia and Logan from here.

I rate this book:

  1. Okay, Logan sounds awesome and is kind of reminding me of Logan from Veronica Mars. So on that basis alone I'm going to have to check this out :D
