He's addicted to booze. She's addicted to sex...staying sober is only half the battle.

No. More. Sex.

Those are the three words Lily Calloway fears the most. But Loren Hale is determined to be with Lily without enabling her dangerous compulsions. With their new living situation—sleeping in the same bed, for real, together—Lily has new battles. Like not jumping Lo’s bones every night. Not being consumed by sex and his body.

Loren plans to stay sober, to right all of his wrongs. So when someone threatens to expose Lily’s secret to her family and the public, he promises that he’ll do anything to protect her. But with old enemies surfacing, Lo has more at stake than his sobriety.

They will torment Lily until Lo breaks.

And his worst fear isn’t relapsing. He hears the end. He sees it. The one thing that could change everything. Just three words.

No. More. Us.

TV Inspiration for the Addicted series

We get the question “what inspired you to write Addicted to You” probably the most out of all questions. And it’s not an easy question to answer, but I think Becca and I both can agree that movies and television have impacted our lives the most. Television is different than movies in that you have full season arcs. Characters are able to grow and develop more, and you gain this attachment to them. There’s more long-term emotional investment in TV, and that’s why we love it. It’s why writing a series rather than a standalone is so much more fun. Our characters are able to grow and develop and we’re able to open up the Addicted world a little bit more.

So what kinds of television shows inspired us?

We grew up watching The WB almost religiously. We were teenagers and in high school the same time as Marissa Cooper and Seth Cohen in The O.C. We graduated nearly when Lucas and Nathan Scott graduated in One Tree Hill. These teen soaps were the backbone of our TV addiction. In most ways, we’re still obsessed with the dramas. Becca writes for the CW Atlanta, so we’re now fangirling over Reign, The Originals, and Hart of Dixie.

Our series has been compared to Gossip Girl “on crack” and that has to do with the themes of the rich in the book.

Our characters come from very wealthy families. Before we started the book, we realized that we had to pick a socioeconomic background for our characters, and whatever we chose would shape them completely. Having access to money eliminates some of the issues that addicts go through, such as stealing to get money for alcohol/drugs. Since we were already tackling so many issues, we didn’t want to add another factor into the mix. So we knew our characters had to come from wealthy families.

We also have this fascination with WASP culture, and I think that spurned from shows like Gossip Girl. Though, we never read those books. We did, however, grow up on The A-List series, which is like the West Coast version. Crazy shenanigans go down (seriously, the main character has plane sex in the first scene – and it’s YA!)

We’re inspired by television story arcs and how they’re able to weave storylines together. The Addicted series slowly becomes an ensemble series – even though the books are told from Lily’s POV (and Lo’s POV is added in the later books). We have sub-characters that have their own motivations and beliefs, and ensemble shows inspire us to make them all cohesive.

The Addicted series is set up like a television show. I know that may seem weird, but we’ve planned it that way. Every book should be like a full season. There’s an arc with an A-plot, and then you have the B and C plots for the sub-characters and some of the main characters. At the end of the series, it will be like seven seasons and all the characters will have their own personal growth by the finale.

See, we didn’t lie. We’re obsessed with TV ;)

Eeep! This topic is so perfect for me. Seriously. I watched One Tree Hill religiously and I actually did graduate the same year that they did. Peyton Sawyer was my soul sister. And Gossip Girl "on crack"? I'm even more excited that I get to read and review this series now ;)

About Krista and Becca Ritchie

Becca Ritchie claims she's from Mystic Falls, but really, she lives in Atlanta where humidity is her greatest foe. She loves comic books, blue nail polish and Jonathan Taylor Thomas circa 1995. She frequents Twitter to dish about too many TV shows, and when she's not blogging, she writes novels and has teamed up with her twin sister to collaborate on a New Adult series.

Krista Ritchie has a clone...or someone who looks exactly like her. If she's not writing books with her twin sister, she's pouring over entertainment news and ingesting copious amounts of pop culture. She likes tennis, that thing called the TV, and beating Becca (her clone) on Sega Genesis. She created YA Book Exchange to combat her book buying addiction and started Nawanda Files, a YA Book Blog that features books into movies news, to share her love for all things bookish. Oh, and she does something called science. Whatever that is.

Krista & Becca Ritchie write New Adult books that make you cringe, gasp, and go ooh-la-la. (If you do that sort of thing.) They are currently working on the spin-offs and final books in the Addicted series. Connect with them on twitter and their website: kbritchie.com
