Since the age of ten, Mia has lived under the iron fist of the fundamentalist preacher who lured her mother away to join his fanatical family of followers. In Edenton, a supposed “Garden of Eden” deep in the South American jungle, everyone follows the Reverend’s strict but arbitrary rules—even the mandate of whom they can marry. Now sixteen, Mia dreams of slipping away from the armed guards who keep the faithful in, and the curious out. When the rebellious and sexy Gabriel, a new boy, arrives with his family, Mia sees a chance to escape.

But the scandalous secrets the two discover beyond the compound’s façade are more shocking than anything they ever imagined. While Gabriel has his own terrible secrets, he and Mia bond together, more than friends and freedom fighters. But is there time to think of each other as they race to stop the Reverend’s paranoid plan to free his flock from the corrupt world? Can two teenagers crush a criminal mastermind? And who will die in the fight to save the ones they love from a madman who’s only concerned about his own secrets?

Escape from Eden is one of those books that after reading it you can't seem to get your body to work properly. Your mind can't focus, your limbs won't move. All you can do is sit and stare and think "my god. What just happened?" I went into reading Escape from Eden thinking it was going to be good and upon finishing it realized that it was better than good. It was amazing. My heart is still pounding as I write this.

Mia has lived in Edenton for 6 years with her mother and brother Max. She knew that Edenton wasn't where she wanted to be but she still believed in what the Reverend was trying to accomplish with the society. The people who lived in Edenton worked for their living, contributing to the small community that took them in and "saved" them. But Mia still questioned everything that the Reverend said and did, even when the Flock mindlessly followed along. And then Gabriel showed up and things started happening to make her realize that everything about this "paradise" isn't what it seems, like the truth behind Prayer Circle. All Mia could think about was escaping and saving her brother from the fates of the rest of the Flock. And with Gabriel she just might have a shot at it.

There were so many shocking moments happen throughout the course of reading this that I'm surprised my jaw still functions properly. There were some moments that I expected, yet it still shocked me when it happened just because what was happening is shocking in general, whether you expected it or not. And then other moments, I just absolutely didn't see them coming AT ALL. Especially at the end.

If you want a book that's going to thrill you, shock you and keep your heart pounding this is definitely it. It's all kinds of crazy. Thrilling, heart pounding, edge-of-your-seat, eyes wide, jaw dropped kind of crazy. I really, REALLY loved it! Even though several of the characters and events made my blood boil Escape from Eden was a fantastic read.

I rate this book:

About Elisa Nader

Hi. I’m Elisa. I like cheese and reading and TV show marathons. Writing is scary, but not as scary as, say, Civil War amputations. I’m an Aquarius. Uh… let’s see… I’m not very good at
writing my own biography. Or autobiography. I guess this is reading more like a slightly incoherent personal ad.

  1. Awesome review, chickie! I love how twisted and overall dark this sounds. Cults are so freaking fascinating to me. Mia and the whole cast really also sounds very compelling and easy to like. I need to give this one a try, too!
